The Muttathu Varkey Award is a literary award instituted in the memory of Malayalam novelist Muttathu Varkey. The award was instituted in 1992.
Sachchidanandan became the first poet to be selected for the award. 2015 was the 75th anniversary of Muthathu Varkey's debut in Malayalam literature with the poem "Atmanjali". So it was decided to give the award to Poetry.
